Water oil recovery

Transforming a Waste Stream into a High-Value Asset

Used lubricating oil is a significant hazardous waste, but also a valuable resource. EcoProcess provides state-of-the-art solutions to unlock the full potential of waste oil recovery, promoting a circular economy and reducing the carbon footprint of the lubricants industry by transforming waste into high-quality base oils comparable to virgin products.

process overview

Re-refining used oil is a multi-stage process to remove contaminants and separate valuable base oil:

finishing/ polishing

Hydrotreatment or clay treatment to meet API Group II and III specifications

de-asphalting

Remove heavy asphaltic materials and spent additives using solvent extraction

Distillation for base oil recovery

Heart of process - high-vacuum distillation towers and WFE separate oil into grades at lower temperatures

pre-treatment (dewatering & de-fueling)

Remove water and light hydrocarbons via atmospheric distillation and filtration

Key Performance Metrics

Proven results that drive operational excellence

Recovery yield

65% to 84% base oil from used oil feedstock. By-products: fuel oil (7-12%), asphalt flux (8-13%)

Energy savings

Up to 50% less energy than primary production. Total energy: 5,345-8,080 MJ/tonne vs. 11,789 MJ for virgin

product quality

Re-refined oils meet/exceed API specifications - Group I, II, and even Group III (synthetic)

SUSTAINABILITY & COST EFFICIENCY

Environmental & Economic Benefits

circular economy benefits

Re-refining is cornerstone of circular economy for lubricants. Transforms hazardous waste into valuable commodity, substitutes energy-intensive primary production, diverts millions of gallons from harmful disposal.

emissions reduction

Drastically reduces GHG emissions - up to 71% lower CO2 vs. virgin oil production. Prevents 1,274-1,568 kg CO2-equivalents per metric tonne of waste oil processed.
